Online Coins of Ostrogothic Italy (OCOI) is a digital typology initiated by the Münzkabinett Berlin and funded by the Federal Program of the Foundation Prussian Heritage (SPK).
In addition to the collections of the Coin Cabinets in Berlin/Germany, Vienna/Austria, and Winterthur/Switzerland first contributors are the American Numismatic Society (who also provides for the server and technical maintenance), and partner institutions of ikmk.net and numid-online.
OCOI is a web-based resource for users to learn about, research, and conduct different types of analyses on the coinages produced during the Ostrogothic Rule in Italy from c. 490 to 552.
OCOI is made possible by stable numismatic identifiers and linked open data methodologies established by the Nomisma.org project. Coin type data are made available with an Open Database License. All images are copyright of their respective institutions, please see the contributors page.
OCOI’s typology and numbering system is built on a monograph by Michael Andreas Metlich, The Coinage of Ostrogothic Italy & and a Die Study of Theodahad Folles by the same author and E. A. Arslan (London 2004). The editors are very grateful to Spink Books and the author for giving their permission to create this digital catalogue.
